Meet Mike Murphy Candidate for Mayor

Born and raised in Minnesota, Mike Murphy grew up with a strong foundation in hard work and community service. His father, a dedicated Air Force veteran who served for 42 years, taught him the importance of duty and responsibility. From his mother, an immigrant from the Netherlands, Mike learned the value of perseverance and never giving up.

Mike and his wife, Gloria, moved to Lexington in 2013, where they are raising their two daughters, Eleanor and Evelyn. Although Mike originally planned to become a police officer, a back injury after college changed his path. Instead, he turned his passion for entrepreneurship into a successful career as a small business owner in the printing and shipping industry, where he has worked for the last 18 years.

Both Mike and Gloria are deeply committed to serving their community. Gloria is active on the Centennial School Board, the Lexington Park Board, and the Planning and Zoning Commission. She also works as a realtor and is employed by a medical device company.

In 2016, Mike decided to give back to his community in a new way by running for City Council, winning as a write-in candidate. By 2019, he became mayor, where he focused on making the city safer, more prosperous, and more efficient. Mike worked to reduce government costs, cut taxes, and eliminate unnecessary regulations. During the pandemic, he helped the city navigate tough times, lowering tax rates, supporting small businesses, and ensuring that the police and fire departments had the resources they needed to keep everyone safe.

In his free time, Mike enjoys spending time with his family, photography, traveling, or heading up north to work on his family’s land, where he likes to drive the tractor, ride ATVS, hunt, and fish.
